A relationship trailer was just released for the upcoming Sakura Wars game this Wednesday. Just what is a relationship trailer? Well basically it previews the different relationships the protagonist can explore with the numerous female characters in the game. Check out the trailer here!
The game will be released for Western players on April 28 for the PlayStation 4. Fans who will buy the physical Launch edition will also get the Theater Costume Add-on Bundle and a sticker set. The Digital Standard Editions will include an Imperial Combat Revue PS4 Dynamic Theme and Neko Ears Add-on Bundle. In addition to those two bonuses, the Digital Deluxe Edition will include the Legacy of Love Add-on Bundle, Charming Accessories Add-on Bundle, and Swimsuit DLC Bundle.
The game was already released in Japan last December 12 under the title Shin Sakura Taisen (New Sakura Wars). The game, which was created by Oji Hiroi and developed and owned by Sega, was first released in 1996 and has released five sequels and numerous spin-off titles since then. The game series is set in a fictional-steampunk version of Taisho era Japan, where a group of women with magical abilities use steam-powered mecha to combat demonic threats.
Just last February it was announced that a new Sakura Wars anime series will premiere this April 3. The anime will be directed by Manabu Ono, who has directorial credits in anime series such as Sword Art Online: Alicization and The irregular at magic high school. Scripts will be co-written by Tatsuhiko Urahata, who will work alongside Ono. Studio Sanzigen is producing the series.
Tite Kubo, who is the creator of the Bleach manga series, is credited as the main character designer for the new game. Other well-known character designers for the new Sakura Wars game are Yukiko Horiguchi (K-On!, Tamako Market) for the Shanghai Assault Force characters, BUNBUN (Izetta: The Last Witch, Sakura Quest) for the London Assault Force characters, Humikane Shimada (Girls und Panzer, Strike Witches) for the Berlin Assault Force characters, Noizi Ito (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), and Shigenori Soejima (Persona game series).
