The game will be released in Japan, Europe, and the Americas sometime this year. The game will feature Japanese voices with English, Neutral-Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. Gameplay modes available are Story Mode, Versus Mode, and Online Versus Mode.
Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is the first console video game for the franchise in 10 years. Its last-released video game was the Captain Tsubasa Zero KImeru! Miracle Shoot for iOS and Android devices last October 2018 in Japan only.
Captain Tsubasa is written and illustrated by Youichi Takahashi. It was first released in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1981, and ran until 1988 with a total of 37 tankobon volumes. The series was highly successful, inspiring three TV anime adaptations, four anime movies, several OVAs, and a stage play. The manga was also released in 20 countries.
The series has recently released a new manga serialization, entitled Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun. It was launched by Takahashi in 2013 and is still running as of this writing, with Shueisha shipping the series’ 12th tankobon volume last October 2019.
Anime News Network describes the story of Captain Tsubasa as such:
“11-year-old Tsubasa Ozora transfers to his new school where quickly he becomes the star of the school`s soccer team. His Brazilian coach, Roberto Hongo, notices the potential of the young athlete and soon offers him a chance to come with him to Brazil.
