Release the Spyce Smartphone Game Set to End Service this March

Sad news for ardent players of the Release the Spyce smartphone game: the game’s official Twitter account has announced this Monday that the app will be closing down this March 29. The game, whose official title is Release the Spyce secret fragrance, was only just launched on February last year.

The game is based on an anime series of the same name, whose story Anime News Network describes as such:

“To everyone around her, Momo lives a quiet life of solitude: going to school and keeping to herself. To the members of the private intelligence agency Tsukikage, she is their newest recruit, learning to hone her skills to help fight against a global crime organization. Under the guidance of senior member Yuki, Momo undergoes a series of dangerous, deadly and diabolical training scenarios and missions. With each victory, Momo’s confidence in her skills grows but it’ll take more than that to help keep not just her home but the world safe.”

The game introduced a new character, Hisui Munechika (VA: Mayu Sagara, who also voices Kasumi Nakasu of Love Live!’s Nijigasaki Gakuen). Hisui is part of an in-game original group of characters called “Nagi no butai” (The Calm Unit).

The series first aired in Japan from October to December 2018 and was directed by Akira Sato for studio Lay-duce. Release the Spyce is a collaboration between Yuruyuri manga creator Namori and Yuki Yuna is a Hero creator Takahiro, with Namori serving as original character designer and Namori as the concept creator. Satoshi Ishino adapted Namori’s characters for animation. The original work for Release the Spyce is credited to SORASAKI.F. Takahiro also directly supervised the story of secret fragrance.

Release the Spyce also received a manga serialization entitled Release the Spyce – Naisho no Mission (Secret Mission), by Meia Mitsuki. The manga series debuted in January 2018 and ended on December of the same year.
