Aniplex To Release Cells at Work BD In English Dub, English Cover of OP Previewed

You may not get to see your cells that much in real life (given that they’re inside your body), but you can now bring them home and watch them in a gorgeous Blu-ray set—and in English dub! This is because last Friday, during their panel at Anime Central, Aniplex of America announced that they will be releasing a Blu-ray disc box set of the hit science anime series Cells at Work! The official dub, which is set for an August 27 release, is now available for preorder via The Right Stuf International website.

The Aniplex Blu-ray release will include a cute English cover of the anime’s OP, ”Mission! Health Comes First!”, which was originally sung in Japanese by the main characters’ voice actors Kana Hanazawa (Red Blood Cell), Tomoaki Maeno (White Blood Cell), Daisuke Ono (Killer T Cell), and Kikuko Inoue (Macrophage). The English version of the OP will be sung by the English voice cast of the four main characters.

The series’ first season produced by David Productions aired from July to September of last year. It was directed by Kenichi Suzuki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Drifters) with Yuuko Kakihara (Persona 4 the Animation) in charge of series composition. The script was collaborated on by both Suzuki and Kakihara.

The anime depicts their daily activities and respective responsibilities as cells in the human body. It was subsequently adapted into anime and was arguably one of the most-talked about shows in 2018. The anime series was also hailed by most because of its easy-to-understand and fun presentation of the processes inside the human body. Its success among fans had led to a stage play adaptation that ran last November, and a mobile game entitled Itsudemo Hataraku Saibou.

Written and illustrated by Akane Shimizu, Cells at Work was first serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius in 2015. It features the anthropomorphized cells of the human body, with the story mostly told from the perspective of a clumsy but lovable Red Blood Cell along with her reliable friend Neutrophil, who almost always ends up saving her from pathogens.
