This year would probably be the beginning of a slow end for the PlayStation Vita as the production of the following unit models PCH-2000 ZA11 (Black) and PCH-2000 ZA23 (Aqua Blue) are scheduled to end production soon as Sony’s PlayStation’s official website states.
Sony Interactive Entertainment said in September 2018 that they will halt the production of the PlayStation Vita in Japan this year and according to the company’s senior vice-president Hiroyuki Oda, they have no plans for another system succeed the PS Vita.
The PlayStation Vita was first released in Japan on December 17, 2011 then later released in South Korea, Hong Kong, North America, Latin America, PAL territories, Singapore, and Europe on February 22, 2012. As of February 26, 2012, it sold more than 1.2 million units worldwide.
Last May 2018, the company announced that they will end the production of physical Vita game cards by March 2019 in Europe and the Americas.
