What We See so Far - "Heaven's Design Team"

Synopsis

In this world, new and different animals are created by Heaven’s Animal Design Department. Similar to working on commissions, these angels/designers spend their days coming up with new animal designs while contending with the unreasonable requests of their client: God. With this series, it tackles on things such as why unicorns can’t exist to how cute looking animals can actually be rather dangerous.

The Good

There are a creativity and cleverness to the overall idea of the story. The way it presents how certain animals would and would not be able to exist is was well explained and held good imagery. It also helps that it doesn’t get too heavy-handed in terms of information. The way that the first chapter on the possible idea on the creation of the giraffe solidified this while presenting a solid introduction. In other chapters, it was interesting to see how the art style presented the aspects of the animals and slipped in some funny imagery to tie in the explanations of the characters. Basically put, the series has a clever idea, good presentation, and fun imagery.

The Bad

It was expected that the characters would be quirky but the way that the chapters are going is making them come off as rather repetitive in some points. On the other hand, they don’t really have a stand out quality to them given that they are clearly modeled after certain comedy character types. As a whole, it’s basically a wacky series that banks more on how it presents its concept. Given that it is a comedy, this was rather expected.

Conclusion

The series has a creative idea and did well in terms of presentation. However, in terms of characters and story, there isn’t much to be expected. Given the comedy genre, it’s clear that the series is banking more on its concept and the way it gives the series a clever feel with how certain animal aspects work and how certain animals would not work such as the unicorn. Overall, if you’re looking for a creative story that gives some good laughs here and there, this a series to check out.
