“Bee and Puppycat’s” sequel is announced to have a co-production between Frederator Studios and anime studio Oriental Light and Magic (OLM).
Titled as “Bee and PuppyCat: Lazy in Space”, the upcoming animated web series will be making its debut in 2019 and have half-hour long episodes. Acting as showrunner is creator Natasha Allegri, who also worked on the “Adventure Time” and “Over the Wall” series. In addition to this role, the creator will be moving to Tokyo to work on the series as well.
For those who may not be familiar with OLM. OLM is a Japanese animation and film studio headquartered in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan. It is best known for having produced various Pokémon television anime, films, and video anime. Other than this, the studio has also animated the “Berserk”, “BanG Dream!”, “To Heart”, and “Utawarerumono” anime, as well as the “Miss Hokusai” film.
The studio was previously involved with the series but animation production is completely switching to the anime studio for the second season. Also contributing to the project is LM’s Los Angeles-based subsidiary Sprite Animation Studios
According to the president and CEO of OLM Toshiaki Okuno, “We are delighted to host Natasha and her team in Tokyo to work alongside our crew for the duration of the production." He stated how it was a pleasure to be able to capture the unique look and that they are all enjoying the cross-cultural experience of working with a visionary U.S. creator like Allegri.
Currently, a promotional video is being streamed for the new season on Frederator Studios’ Cartoon Hangover YouTube channel. It has also been confirmed that the series will be available through Crunchyroll parent company Ellation’s VRV streaming platform.
“Bee and Puppycat” first appeared in July 2013. Written by Natasha Allegri and directed by Larry Leichliter the series ran until November 2016 and had 10 episodes. The series featured an unemployed woman named Bee who one day encounters a mysterious creature named PuppyCat. Adopting this apparent cat-dog hybrid, Bee finds herself transported to another dimension. Following this, the two go on a series of temporary jobs to pay her monthly rent.
