Synopsis
Narumi is a female office worker who hides her status as an otaku and fujoshi lifestyle. Hirotaka, Narumi’s childhood friend, on the other hand, is a cool office worker who has no qualms with people knowing he is a game otaku. One night after having drinks and playing games together, Hirotaka proposes they become a couple and Narumi agrees. Thus begins the romantic comedy tale of an otaku couple.
The Good
An established relationship between adults who are main characters is a rare thing to find among most shoujo works. To see that concept in this series is extremely refreshing for this writer. It also helps that there are two couples and not everything is overly exaggerated. Other than the romantic relationships, the friendship between the characters makes for the second sweetest aspect of the series.
Going back on the note of the romance, it’s sweet, there’s no going around it, the two couples just have a lovely chemistry to them and you can’t help but smile at their dynamic. As characters, they make for rather relatable people which adds to their charm. Basically, the story will draw you in, but the relationships are what will make you want to stay. Outside of the story and characters, the art, music, and comedy also have fun and cute aspects to them as well.
The Bad
So far, the only thing that can be said against the series is that it could work its comedy better. It’s not bad but it’s rather standard for the most part. Seeing as this is only looking at the beginning of the series, there’s not much to critique with the three episodes. The smallest thing that can be noticed is that the animation in certain scenes could have been done better. Mainly scenes that involved crowds like when they were in the bar and the convention.
Conclusion
Romance stories like the one presented here are a rare thing and something to greatly enjoy. More than the romance, the friendship of the characters is something to enjoy as well. There is a lot of relatable points to the characters and is mainly what makes them so charming in their dynamics with one another. So far the comedy and animation are the only notable issues the first portion of the series. If you’re looking for a romantic comedy that steps outside the box and has enjoyable characters, this is it.
