Synopsis
Fujiwara-kun is quiet, studious but has extreme negativity. Tachibana-kun, on the other hand, is carefree and overly positive. Though the two are as different as can be… they’re a couple. From eating lunch together to going on dates, they not that much different from a typical couple. A strange couple they may be, but they work.
The Good
Usually, when it comes to stories involving opposite couples, there’s a tendency of personalities shifting between the two. To put it simply, for the majority of the story, the couple is shaped by the development of their relationship. While there’s nothing wrong with this, and there is a lot of stories that had cute executions from this, the manga presents a different outlook. Mainly in how the pair is when they are by themselves and when they are together.
There’s barely any difference, that’s what makes the series so interesting. You can clearly tell that the two are a couple. At the same time, however, they are not as romanticized as many other couples in this cliche. It’s fascinating to see how the two communicate and understand one another without having a flirtatious air around them. They’re just a simple but unique couple and somehow real.
While they’re not necessarily the ideal couple that many romance works have dished out, they’re a type of couple you can see lasting a long time? Weird but sweet would be the best way to describe the couple. Other than this, the story did well in laying out the two’s story. From how they meet, to how they get together. The general simple tones of the series are quite enjoyable.
The Bad
When it comes to female characters in a male romance story, they tend to be a mixed bag of character types. Here it just seems she was placed for mild comedy purposes. The way that she shifts from liking one guy to the other just seems like a side note of the series. It would have been nicer if there had been a moment where she and her friends become friends with the couple. Or at least they communicate.
Conclusion
There are all kinds of stories which present a cute couple that is the complete opposite of the other. Here, the concept of the two being opposites is amped up, but the presentation of their relationship more than makes up for it. These two are the type of couple that you don’t see enough of in the manga community and that is what makes it worth a read. The only flaw the series presents is that it could have branched out more on other characters.
