General Impression: Dame x Prince Anime Caravan

Synopsis

Anri is the princess of Inaco, a minor kingdom sandwiched between two powerful kingdoms. When her father is injured she is sent to act as the representative for the signing ceremony to be held in Selenfalen, a powerful theocracy. Upon arriving at the castle however, she finds that the princes and nobles of the neighboring kingdoms are more than a little strange…

First Impression

After so many reverse harem series it’s nice to see a change in pace with the characters, especially with the female protagonist. Most of the time we get the sweet and kind type, or the type who just brings up the male characters and basically becomes a type of background character. With Arnri, she presents a female protagonist within the reverse harem genre that has some actual potential to her. Not only does she have some relatability to her in terms of her reaction to the princes, but finally we have a female protagonist who’s got some potential to her.

The princess is not the only interesting character to find in the episode however as there is also the princes to take note of as well. While they can be a bit much and they’re pretty much a mix of general male character types in reverse harems, the way that they’re are so outlandish shows some solid dynamic. What’s Other than this there wasn’t much issue to be found other than the clear foreshadowing of the obvious antagonists for the series and what may happen in the later part of the series.

General Impression

The fun thing about the series is that while it does have elements of a reverse harem, that is not the focus of the series. Rather it is the comedy that is the focus and for the most part it works, other times it was hit or miss. Another plus is that there is no central romance focus on certain pairs in the series but rather gives moments to all the characters without one being favored over the other. The downside to this however is that while it’s nice that there is development to each of the characters, it doesn’t really give much on the romance aspect of the series.

At least though, there was some solid development on all parts of the characters. While the first half of the series took more focus on comedy the second half of the series is where things really start picking up, specifically around the 9th or 10th episode. It’s during this part that the plot of the series makes a real appearance and gives some rather solid development to Prince Narek, the most outlandish prince out of the lot. Overall the biggest issue for the series is that the focus tends to go different points and there are some general reverse harem tropes.

Conclusion

This is a rather solid series that combines the reverse harem and comedy genre. While there was more focus on the comedy and not much on the romance, the series worked its genres well. What really brought out the series however was the characters and their outlandish portrayals. It might not appeal to everyone, but the series has a solid charm to it that brings something different to the reverse harem genre to a degree.

And while the first half may have some general points to it mixed in with the development, it’s the second half that things really get exciting and stray away from the comedy work. So basically, solid comedy that could have been panned out better in terms of working other plots but rather good character development and overall build-up
