Synopsis
Maria was but a simple girl who lived in Spain until she encounters the visiting Japanese, specifically a samurai by the name of Koujirou when she was in search of her little brother. Trouble is on the rise however as Maria discovers Koujirou gravely injured the next day and nurses him back to help, though the relationship between the two deepens, Koujirou’s need to return to Japan to solve the mystery behind those that attempted to do away with him is strong. Thus begins an adventure between Maria, Koujirou along with her admirer Antonio.
The Good
The story is simple and straightforward but also unique from the usual. The characters are interesting in their own way and the overall design makes for a good visual for the story. The romance is also a sweet part of the series and just seeing how all the characters play off one another was very interesting. There is a hint of mystery that could work as a side story in terms of the pirates but generally, the characters and design of the work gives it a solid framework.
The Bad
As straightforward as the plot may be, the development could have been panned out better as well. While there was an indication that the characters learned and got to know the other better, there was a lot of convenience points to be found in the story as well. There could have been a better indication on the transition of Koujirou learning English. Then there was the ending as well, which in hindsight is rather predictable. For the most part, the whole story just seems rushed in a variety of parts.
Conclusion
The story is simple if not a bit rushed, but the development placed into the characters are solid and the design is a delight for the series. There are quite a bit points of convenience however and for the most part the story came off as rather rushed. Still the general story is rather unique in its own way and the series does have its strengths, so if you’re looking for a simple but sweet adventure story, then this is one worth the read.
