Idols, singers, bands, there are an abundance to find in the anime community. Whether it be the main theme of the show or a special segment for a new look to the characters, they always leave a unique mark with their not just their eye-catching looks but most of all their music. Music in any anime has always been found to be catchy and memorable pieces.
For idols groups and singer, their music is what defines their identity and for fans it is what makes us remember them and who they are. There are variety of bands and anime to choose from for a variety of topics, but the following bands/music listed are being recognized not just for how memorable the characters and their songs are, but on how diverse their/its music is.
10. High School Star Musical a.k.a. Starmyu
This is the tale of a group of male students aiming to make it big in the music department of the prestigious music school, Ayanagi Academy. While the plot of the series is not entirely new nor the characters either, the show does make up for it with certain moments of drama as well as a variety of pop song by the characters along with some well-done dancing animation.
So, while it’s not exactly the best, the viewer can enjoy the different modes of pop songs and dancing by the male group. For a better idea of the songs, here is a sample song done by the esteemed council themselves.
9. IdolM@ster
If there is one thing to be said about this series aside from its music is the fact that by far it holds the largest female group in the list and each one has their own personality, something that can be applauded. Though if one were to look at the plot however, there is not much to be found in terms of drama. From and outsiders point of view, it is a cute series with cute girls that holds a semblance of drama for plot and some good music to keep viewers interested if nothing else.
The main reason that this series and the band ranks higher than Starmyu would that it does have diverse and catchy music and with its alternate series known as IdolM@ster Cinderella, there are points of improvement that can be found.
8. PriPara
An epitome for all things that would attract the stereotypical audience, PriPra is a series that embodies all things cute bubbly, from fashion to music, it’s all present in the series. It certainly is a treat for the eyes with its bright colors and magical moments for effects. What’s more it does bring a unique twist to the general plot of a character dreaming to make it big in the entertainment business and goes as far as create a world that surrounds this concept. So for its colourful world and quirky diverse music, PriPara takes 8th place.
7. Love Live!
In the Love Live! Franchise there are two groups to choose from and both held their own distinct sound. The series held a lovely story of a group of young girls and their ambitions in the pursuit of music. While it may seem similar to other female idol group stories it does hold its own twist of having the girls themselves write their own songs to perform. In comparison to some idol anime, you can see the effort that was done for these characters and in result comes a group with catchy music and enjoyable characters.
6. Gravitation
A story of a young artist learning the meaning of music and love, this series brings its own unique town of music, varying in pop, rock and techno to match the time period in which it was made in. Considered as part of anime series that are now considered as classics, many who have enjoyed the show even now will find nostalgia in hearing certain songs of the series. As such this series and the band within it has earned a place on this list for not only presenting a twist in what could have been a generic romance story but also
5. B – Project
One of the rare anime series to have a large group of males with one female character featured and it is not a reverse harem nor romance anime. Rather, this is a series that actually takes a look of what it means to be a male idol group and the struggle that comes with it.
With this series we see not one group trying to grow, but rather three groups made into one group of ten. From the first episode alone the viewer is presented on how well they would sound together but as the story progresses they are also presented with the talents of their singular groups.
4. Uta no Prince
Originally telling the tale of six male aspiring musicians brought together into a band by the songs written by the protagonist Nanami Haruka, the series soon grew into three seasons and in turn introduced three bands for the female audience to admire.
In addition to having their own unique look and tone for their respective bands, the three groups are not limited to performing on their own but have also done performances with one another as well, creating even more unique music with their diverse voices.
For the three groups is the main group STARISH, presented mainly to perform male pop idol songs with each member holding their own unique identity like all other idol characters of the song. Introduced in the next season of the series is the band with a rock theme mixed into their music, QUARTET NIGHT and the band that brings a bold feel to their music, “HEAVENS”.
3. Angel Beats
By far one of the most emotional of series in the anime music community, Angel Beats has left its mark not only with its plot and characters but its music as well for how it touched the audience. Though the music is not as highly diverse or different as what has been listed, this anime earns its third rank on this list for doing something different, creating an emotional attachment to the audience.
It is an anime that not only creates a story of music and friendship that would tug at the heartstrings, but it has music in which a special factor to the series.
2. K-ON!
A story of a group of girls with a love of music coming together to make a band creates for a lovely story of friendship and growth through music that even today infect those who listen to it. Even today the anime is considered a high rank in terms of music anime and with how enjoyable and energetic the characters of the show are, it’s easy to see why there are many who would recommend the series. That is why, for it infectious songs, enjoyable characters and lovely story, this anime earns the spot of number 2 on this list.
1. Show By Rock
By far this series holds the most diverse of bands with not 2, not 3 but a handful of bands and all holding a different genre for the viewer to choose from and enjoy. For those looking for female J-Rock, the protagonist’s band Plasmagica takes to the stage. Those looking for the male version of the genre shall find the band Shingan Crimsonz taking the role of the bad boy rockers for the show.
On the other hand, there is also male idol rock to enjoy with the members of Trichronika. Not a fan of rock? Then have a try at the cute and bubbly side of pop with the members of Cristicrista. There is even a genre of Asian influence to enjoy with the band Tsurezurenaru Ayatsuri Mugenan.
Based on a mobile game of the same name and holding an intriguing plot involving corrupt companies and a world of people being turned into animals, Show By Rock takes number one for not only having catchy songs and diverse music, but also an interesting plot and characters.
