Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion [TV]
Set on the fictional year of 2010, the world has been split into 3 superpowers: The Holy Britannian Empire (the Americas; also called Britannia), the Chinese Federation (Asia), and the European Union (Europe and Africa; previously known as the Euro-Universe. Also known as Europa United in Akito the Exiled).
The story follows Lelouch Lamperouge, the exiled prince of Britannia who finds himself caught between the crossfire of warring nations. Fortunately, he manages to escape, thanks to a mysterious girl only known as C.C., who also bestows upon him Geass, the “Power of Kings”.
With his newfound “Power of Absolute Obedience”, Lelouch sets out to exact his revenge upon Britannia, guised as a masked vigilante known as Zero.
About the Show
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, also simply known as Code Geass, is an action-mecha anime television series written by Ichirou Oukouchi. Produced by studio Sunrise under the direction of Gorou Taniguchi, Code Geass aired a total of 25 episodes between October 5, 2006 and July 28, 2007. Although receiving a fair share of criticism, the series has been well received by most viewers and has established itself as one of the most popular anime of the recent generation.
Season Summary
Episode 1: The Day a New Demon was Born
Lelouch vi Britannia now lives under the identity of Lelouch Lamperouge, after his original identity had been declared dead 7 years ago. Moments before being caught by the military, Lelouch receives Geass from a girl, which he uses to dispatch his attackers.
Episode 2: The White Knight Awakens
Lelouch leads the terrorist group to engage Viceroy Clovis la Britannia’s army, forcing them to use the experimental Knightmare Frame. Clovis withdraws his army after Lelouch holds him at gunpoint.
Episode 3: The False Classmate
Having his suspicions that his mother was murdered by one of his relatives, Lelouch questions Clovis before killing him. Later, Lelouch learns that Geass works only once per person, and Suzaku is to be trialed for Clovis’ death.
Episode 4: His Name is Zero
Lelouch takes the identity of Zero, and asks Suzaku to join him in his rebellion. Suzaku refuses however, as he believes that Britannia can be changed through legal means.
Episode 5: The Princess and the Witch
Lelouch is reunited with C.C., the girl who gave him Geass. Charges against Suzaku were acquitted, after Zero claims responsibility for Clovis’ murder. Later, Cornelia li Britannia arrives in the country, with the sole purpose of capturing Zero.
Episode 6: The Stolen Mask
Suzaku transfers to Lelouch’s class. Meanwhile, a stray cat steals Zero’s mask. Later, Charles zi Britannia, delivers a speech for Prince Clovis.
Episode 7: Attack Cornelia
Zero is challenged by Cornelia, to which he accepts. However, things do not go as he planned, after the rebels disobey his orders. Defeated but able to escape, Lelouch decides to build his own army.
Episode 8: The Black Knights
Lelouch publicly broadcasts the creation of the Black Knights, after taking advantage of a hostage situation carried out by the Japan Liberation Force.
Episode 8.5: The Track of the Mask
Lelouch monologues the past events.
Episode 9: Refrain
The Black Knights set out to destroy the distribution of Refrain, a drug that lets a person relive their happiest memories, only to suffer from severe side effects afterwards.
Episode 10: Guren Dances
Lelouch and his Knights follow Cornelia who was heading to destroy the Japan Liberation Front at Narita. Using her new Knightmare Frame, Kallen causes a massive landslide that takes out much of Cornelia’s forces.
Episode 11: Battle for Narita
Lelouch and Kallen almost capture Cornelia, if not for the arrival of Suzaku. C.C. comes to aid Lelouch and they escape Narita.
Episode 12: The Messenger from Kyoto
Zero meets with Taizou Kirihara, a powerful person from the Japanese underground groups. He reveals his true identity to him in order to gain his trust and support.
Episode 13: Shirley at Gunpoint
The battle between the JLF and Britannian Army continues. Later, Lelouch crash-lands near Shirley, who was secretly following him.
Episode 14: Geass vs. Geass
Lelouch meets Mao, a young man who also has Geass. Mao manipulates Shirley into shooting Lelouch, however, she snaps out of it moments before. Later, Lelouch erases Shirley’s memories of him, to rid her of guilt.
Episode 15: Cheering Mao
Lelouch rescues C.C., who has failed after attempting to take care of Mao. Mao ends up getting captured by the authorities, and Lelouch reaffirms his contract with C.C.
Episode 16: Nunnally Held Hostage
Mao returns and takes Nunnally hostage. With Suzaku’s help, Lelouch outsmarts Mao, and C.C. kills him.
Episode 17: Knight
Lelouch agrees to help Kyoshiro Tohdoh’s comrades rescue their leader. Lelouch pulls back, however, after seeing Suzaku within the Lancelot. Euphemia instates Suzaku as her Knight, after witnessing the Britannians scorn him.
Episode 17.5: The Truth of the Mask
Lelouch reflects upon his friendship with Suzaku, and about his current goals.
Episode 18: I Order you, Suzaku Kururugi
Lelouch launches an operation to capture Suzaku and the Lancelot. However, his plan fails after Schneizel el Britannia bombards the island with his battleship Avalon, willing to sacrifice Suzaku in order to kill Zero.
Episode 19: Island of the Gods
Lelouch, Euphemia, Kallen, and Suzaku end up on Kamine Island, after Avalon’s assault. There, Suzaku learns about Kallen, and Euphemia confirms that Lelouch and Zero is the same person.
Episode 20: Battle at Kyushu
The Britannian Army retaliates against the Kyuushuu invaders. Lancelot’s power runs out, cornering Suzaku in a dangerous position. Fortunately, Zero and C.C. arrives to recharge Lancelot.
Episode 21: The School Festival Declaration
Euphemia declares her plan to turn the area around Mount Fuji into a Specially Administrated Zone of Japan, where Elevens can freely be referred to as Japanese again.
Episode 22: Bloodstained Euphy
Euphemia orders a massacre on the people attending the commemoration for SAZOJ, after Lelouch mistakenly uses Geass on her.
Episode 23: At Least with Sorrow
Zero announces his desire to create a new country called the United States of Japan, an idea strongly supported by the entirety of Area 11.
Episode 24: The Collapsing Stage
The Black Knights manage to push back the Britannian army, and establishes their HQ at Ashford Academy. Later, Nunnally is visited by V.V. who intends to take her away.
Episode 25: Zero
Lelouch is torn between his goal with the Black Knights and saving his sister Nunally. He is later confronted by Suzaku, who manages to discover Zero’s true identity.
